Seriously, I knew about the SRT 10 Ram but not a V10 work truck. I also knew that ford had a V10 in the 350 for a short time but I never knew this thing existed.

Ram Dodge put the 8.0 V10 in 2500 and 3500 trucks from 1994-2003.

I believe that the viper engine was actually based of this one originally
Edit: wiki says so. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Vip…

my dad had a V10 area Ram2500. It was a beast, but he should have bought a Cummins.

They are both based off of the Chrysler LA smallblock, the Viper v10 is not neccissarily based off of the Ram V10.
The primary difference is that the Viper block is aluminum and was originally cast by Lamborghini when Chrysler owned them. The Ram block is iron.

The Ford V10 wasn't just in the 350's. It went in the 250's also up until 2010. Now that engine is being used for the F650 and up trucks.

Fun fact, the Dodge in Twister was a 1 ton v10. Time to go watch it again and let the lust blossom. Also, Jeeptruck.

3/4 ton. Dodge didn't make single rear wheel 3500s during that gen ('94-02).

To expand on Jedediah's comment, it's essentially a 5.9L (360 c.i.) V8 with two cylinders added . Similarly, the 3.9L V6 once used in Dakotas and base Rams is basically a 5.2L (318 c.i. V8 with two cylinders removed. Other than cylinder count, bore diameter, & stroke, they're largely the same engine. The LA engine dates back to 1963, and is the most common "small block" Mopar V8, commonly known in the '60s & '70s muscle cars in 318, 340, & 360 variants.

Guy used to come to my gas station when the body first changed to the current/recent style. Regular Cab Regular or short box 4x4 with the V10. Wasn't an RT. Looked perfect the first time I saw it, it was perfect. Second time I saw it it was coverd in mud and scratches from the bushes and brambles from the trail he took it on. I asked what happened and he broke into a smile when he told me.

in 1995, Motor Trend tested a Ram 2500 v10 and it was the fastest truck they had ever tested with the exception of the GMC Sy/Ty. Low 15 second 1/4 mile due to GOBS of torque. Keep in mind that in the mid 90s, high 14s were quick for sports cars and been the factory freak LT1 cars were only turning low 14s most of the time.

You were definitely right about the lust, though. That truck is one of the best parts of the movie.

Indeed. I recently found a similar truck on CL, cept in teal green...had the camper and everything. It was lovely. But it had sold by the time I called, and it had only been up for one day. Meh.
